PREP YOUR BUSINESS FOR THE NEW BIZ YEAR

By now, most of us already have dreams, visions, and plans for our new business/financial year and some of us are even already working towards them. You are gearing up for the new year already, but is your business ready for the new year?Whether you are a creative professional or you are an entrepreneur; you are still running a business, and you should treat it as such.

What plans and processes do you have in place for the New Year to make it a great one for your business? Can’t answer these questions?

Here are some tips to help you:

  1. Take inventory: Before you plan for the new year, ensure you have evaluated the previous year. Were you able to meet all of your goals? Which of them didn’t you achieve? Why didn’t you achieve them? What are the lessons to be learnt? What would you do differently in the new year? Answering some of these questions would better position you for the year to come

  2. Have a strategy in place: Without a strategy, you can’t achieve your goals. Take a critical look at your business and come up with a business strategy, a branding strategy, as well as a marketing and sales strategy. An effective strategy will help put your business in the right footing in the new year.

  3. Keep your finances in order: Set up an accounting and bookkeeping system for your business if you don’t already have one. In addition, sort out your taxes, separate your business account from your personal account, set up an invoicing system, etc. When you begin to keep your finances in order, you begin to treat your business like a real business.

  4. Set realistic business goals: Make sure your business goals are SMART and realistic. Don’t set unrealistic goals that would tire you out.

  5. Break your goals into tasks: When you set your goals, ensure you break them into monthly, weekly, and daily tasks so they would be easier to manage and achieve.

  6. Review and update your website: Some people forget about this aspect. Your website may have some outdated information you may need to update, replace, or even delete. Ensure you have the right content and contact channels on your website.

  7. Schedule: Do you normally schedule your website, email marketing, and social media content ahead? Now is the time to do so! Scheduling things ahead helps you to save time and get things done faster than you normally would. Some scheduling tools for social media are Hootsuite, Planoly, Preview App, etc.

  8. Back up: Back up your documents and keep things in order!
